"How To Get A Guy Back?" - Advice Please

Hey girl!

As part of my get your boyfriend back series, I post an article each week about a girl who is going through a rough patch. This week it's about how to get a guy back. Jodie emailed me confused about her ex's actions, and was wondering what to do.

Hey Essy

So I have a unique kind of situation. I am 17 and my ex boyfriend is 18. We have been dating for 2 & 1/2 years and it was pretty serious. He would go on vacations with me and my family and i went on vacation with him and his family. we all got a long very well.

But me and my ex were fighting a lot over stupid things. He went into college and started hanging out with an old friend of his a lot so i would complain that he was always with him and things started to go downhill from there. he told me he needed "space" because he was stressed. He's the kind of person who cannot handle stress. He started smoking because he felt "down" and "stressed"

He also got a fake ID and has been drinking a lot because he feels overwhelmed. We went for about 2 weeks without speaking (which was very unusual for us) because we used to talk everyday.

Then he contacted me for thanksgiving. after that we had contact about once a week. i had found out he had been speaking to a girl so i got really mad and told him i cant believe he did that and that i cant believe hes changed so much and that i wanted nothing to do with him as a friend or anything more. the next night, friday night he called me and started crying saying he felt so overwhelmed and his parents took everything away from him and that he felt that he had nobody to trust. I told him he has his friends and he told me he had no true friends. I left the club I was at to go talk to him.

We went out to dinner then back to his house. I told him I had to get going because it was getting late and he asked me to hang out a little bit longer. we talked for a while then he started playing with my hand and then he kissed me..I told him I couldn't do this to the guy I'm talking to because hes a nice guy and opened the door.

He asked me to close the door and we kept kissing. I finally had to go and he told me to call him when i got home and told me i shouldn't get into a relationship with this other guy so fast..I'm so confused! Please help ):

You mention you are "talking" to another guy... if this means you are seeing another guy then you can't get angry at your ex for talking to another girl. To me that's kind of double-standards.

That aside, if you really want your guy back, then make him chase you. Make HIM come out a club to go to a restaurant to see YOU. It is so much more effective if the decision to get back together comes from HIM and not YOU. It's classic reverse psychology.
